THE MISSION

To develop a renewable energy project that Copake can be proud of and can serve as a model for siting grid-scale solar in rural communities.

A project that not only fights climate change, but also addresses community concerns -- to protect and enhance Copake's natural resources, active farmland, and wildlife habitats, while preserving rural viewsheds, property values and the local economy.

Over the last three months, a coalition of community voices and environmental organizations have joined together to identify ways Hecate Energy could be doing better for Copake with their proposed Shepherd's Run solar facility.   This massive project must be the best project it can be for the residents, the environment, and the economy of Copake.

Representatives of The Columbia Land Conservancy, Scenic Hudson, Sensible Solar for Rural New York and Friends of Columbia Solar, along with Assemblywoman Didi Barrett and local landscape architects developed ideas that help to reshape this solar facility.

This website presents those ideas as they were introduced to the community of Copake on February 17th, 2022.

We welcome your feedback on these proposed ideas.  Please share your comments, thoughts and feedback via the Copake Solar Working Group email - CraryvilleGateway@gmail.com
